Air New Zealand appoints CIO


Ralph Norris, Chief Executive Officer of Air New Zealand, announced today the appointment of Rob Fyfe as the company`s new Chief Information Officer, with effect from 11 February 2003.
Mr Fyfe holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Mech) Hons from Canterbury University and is a graduate of the Royal Air Force College Cranwell`s Aero-Systems Engineering Programme.


During the mid 1980s he was Maintenance Flight Commander on No.75 Fighter Squadron responsible for all engineering and logistics and was the youngest officer appointed to this role. He resigned from the RNZAF in 1987 to pursue a commercial career.


His commercial career began in banking first with Post Bank. In 1989, he joined the Bank of New Zealand, where he carried out a number of senior executive roles. In 1996,he transferred to National Australia Bank (BNZ`s parent) as Group General Manager Re-engineering followed by a period as Group General Manager Marketing, Distribution and Electronic Banking and was a member of the Group Executive Committee.


In 1998, he returned to New Zealand as General Manager Consumer for Telecom NZ responsible for the delivery of services to the residential market. More recently he was Chief Operating Officer and then Managing Director of ITV Digital based in London.


Mr Norris said: “We at Air New Zealand are delighted to have recruited an executive of Rob Fyfe`s calibre and experience, further strengthening our top team.”
