America West and BA Renew Codeshare

PHOENIX, Nov. 26 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/—America West Airlines (NYSE: AWA) and British Airways today announced the renewal of their existing codeshare arrangement and the addition of Phoenix - Sacramento service to the agreement, which has been in place for six years. The British Airways flight code, BA, will now be added to America West flights in the market, which expands the codeshare to include a total of 14 destinations.

“British Airways is a valued partner. We`re thrilled to be renewing this very successful alliance which gives our customers seamless service to many of the most popular destinations throughout Europe,” said Dion Flannery, vice president, route planning and scheduling, America West Airlines. “And we welcome British Airways` customers to another America West destination.”

“By codesharing on these flights, British Airways is offering its customers an even greater choice of travel destinations, smoother transfers and the ability to earn frequent flyer miles,” said David Noyes, executive vice president, sales and marketing North America for British Airways. “America West is one of British Airways oldest codeshare partners and the partnership greatly extends British Airways network within the western US.”

The two airlines currently codeshare on the following routes: Los Angeles and San Francisco to Las Vegas; Phoenix to Tucson, Las Vegas, Salt Lake City, Albuquerque and Reno; as well as seven cities in California—Burbank, Oakland, Ontario, Orange County, San Jose, Long Beach and now, Sacramento.

Codesharing allows a carrier to sell the flights offered by another carrier as its own by attaching its two-letter booking code to the other carrier`s flights. This provides customers additional travel options and convenient access to the flights through worldwide computer reservation systems. Codesharing allows passengers to check their luggage to their final destination and receive boarding passes on both airlines for their entire itinerary.
