Southwest Airlines Co.
(NYSE: LUV) announced today that the Company flew 3.8 billion revenue
passenger miles (RPMs) in October 2002, compared to 3.7 billion RPMs flown in
October 2001.  Available seat miles (ASMs) increased 4.2 percent to
6.0 billion from the October 2001 level of 5.8 billion.  The load factor for
the month was 62.5 percent, compared to 63.7 percent for October 2001.

For the ten months ended October 31, 2002, Southwest flew 38.1 billion
RPMs, compared to 37.4 RPMs for the same period in 2001.  Available seat miles
increased 5.4 percent to 57.3 billion from the 2001 level of 54.3 billion.
The year-to-date load factor was 66.4 percent, compared to 68.8 percent for
the same period last year.
