“Open Sky” agreement Between Switzerland and Canada

4th Nov 2002

SWISS will be able to benefit from a new, very liberal, air transportation agreement between Switzerland and Canada, thus consolidating its position in the marketplace. The “Open Sky” agreement gives the Swiss airline unlimited access to all Canadian destinations and comprehensive flexibility as regards the introduction of new fares.

The new agreement was signed in Berne last week by the aviation authorities of both countries and it replaces the previous restrictive agreement. SWISS will thus enjoy better access to the Canadian market. It can now, together with its US partner American Airlines Code Share Flights, offer flights through the AA hub, to Canada, and, in the reverse direction, continuation flights over Zurich. In December this year, together with American Airlines Code Sharing, flights to Calgary and Toronto will be on offer. Vancouver and other Canadian destinations should soon be added to the SWISS route network.
