For the fifth consecutive year, Air New Zealand was named Best Pacific Airline at the Travel Trade Gazette Travel Awards 2002 held in Bangkok yesterday.
Inaugurated in 1989, the TTG Annual Awards have become the most influential in Asia`s travel industry. This year, a total of 50 awards were presented in various categories including airlines, hotels, car rental, airports, cruise operators, theme attractions and more. Voting is done through open nomination by over 16,000 readers of TTG Asia and 11,000 readers of TTG China who span the entire spectrum of the travel industry in Asia.
Through their votes, Asia`s travel trade industry acknowledges Air New Zealand as the outstanding Pacific-based carrier operating Asia-Pacific routes with the best services, network and schedules.
Earlier this month, Air New Zealand was voted fourth best scheduled airline for the second year running in the Daily Telegraph Travel Awards 2002. These awards poll some 20,000 readers of the UK`s Daily Telegraph and Sunday Telegraph newspapers. The respondents have been on at least two overseas holidays costing more than £500 during the past year. The data received is based on actual experience rather than overall perception and is independently analysed by a research company.
New Zealand came in fifth in the favourite holiday destination category—behind Italy, the Greek Islands, Cyprus and Corsica—its first time in the top five.
Last month, Air New Zealand was ranked fifth in the Best Leisure Airline - Long Haul by readers of the UK Conde Nast Traveller magazine in London. It also topped an independent customer survey by Skytrax Research, UK, as having the Best Cabin Crew in the Pacific Region and Australia section.
