Oregon: High-tech and Fascinating Scenery


With Portland, as of the summer timetable 2003, Lufthansa will serve another attractive destination in the United States. The new Lufthansa service from Frankfurt to Portland will be the only European connection with Oregon`s metropolis and thus of interest to travelers not only from Germany, but also from other European markets. Oregon will gain considerably in importance as a destination due to the Lufthansa flight.
Portland, the “City of Roses”, is the home of several large U.S. industrial companies, including no less than 1,696 high-tech firms which altogether provide work for more than 72,000 employees. In addition, there are branch offices of leading German and European groups. More than 1.9 million people live in the Greater Portland area. 

Furthermore, the state of Oregon, geographically located on the North-west coast of the USA is one of the most attractive areas of North America in terms of its scenery, and has corresponding tourism potential for vacationers from Germany and the whole of Europe.


The Federal State of Oregon, with an area of over 97,000 sq. miles the tenth-largest in the USA, is above all, a hot tip for vacationers who like to spend time close to nature with diverse possibilities for sport and recreation. Oregon is a state of extensive forests, clear rivers and fresh, clean air. The state in which the myth of the American West lives on to this day - a state with a coastline with rugged cliffs and long sandy beaches, with majestic mountain peaks, gentle valleys and uninhabited desert wastes. Oregon`s landmark is the imposing Mount Hood which is 12,290 ft high.


The Lufthansa flight with the flight number LH 468 will operate daily from 31 March 2003 with an Airbus A340, equipped with 247 seats. It will depart from Frankfurt at 10.30 hrs. and arrive in Portland at 11.55 hrs. local time. The return flight with flight number LH 469 will depart from Portland at 13.45 hrs. and arrive about ten hours later, at 8.55 hours the next morning in Frankfurt.


Lufthansa is offering an introductory rate which can be booked as of now and up to 31 January 2003. Between 31 March and 31 May 2003, for example, airline passengers can travel to Portland for as little as 477 Euro from Frankfurt, from Hamburg via Frankfurt for 464 Euro and from Munich via Frankfurt for 470 Euro, taxes and fees included in each case. The minimum stay for this rate will be seven days, the maximum stay will be one month.

Portland is the 16th destination served by Lufthansa in the United States and the 18th in North America.
