30 September 2002, JOHANNESBURG: Because of the curfew imposed around Luanda airport during a summit of southern African leaders, South African Airways will revise its flight times to and from the Angolan capital .
Angola’s Airport Director of Security notified SAA that in order to accommodate the arrival of heads of state, the Luanda Airport would be closed between 12h00 and 16h00 (local time) on 1 October and again between 10h00 and 14h30 on Wednesday, 2 October.
The leaders will arrive in Luanda on Tuesday 1 October for a Southern African Developing Countries (SADC) conference and depart the following day.
To accommodate the times when the airport would be closed, SAA flight 54 will depart Johannesburg at 07h00 instead of 09h15 and arrive in Luanda at 9h55 in place of 12h10.
SA55 returning from Luanda to Johannesburg will depart at 11h30 rather than at 13h30 and arrive at 15h55, not 17h55.
SAA flies to Luanda three times a week, on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
