Air Atlanta Icelandic has signed a contract with Southern Winds, based in Cordoba, Argentina, to operate two Boeing 767-300ER aircraft connecting Cordoba to Buenos Aires, Miami and New York.  The two new aircraft take Air Atlanta’s fleet of Boeing 767s to eight.

Last month Air Atlanta took on two other 767-300ERs, one flying for Aviajet based in Dublin, Eire, carrying Irish holidaymakers on charter services to sun destinations.  The other is flying for Aeromar, based in Santo Domingo, capital of the Dominican Republic, and is operating scheduled services to Miami and New York.

The other 767s are the smaller -200 version.  Three are flying charter services from London Gatwick for Excel Airways and the other is operating scheduled services for Nigeria Airways from Lagos to Dubai and Jeddah.

Air Atlanta Icelandic provides the flight deck crew, full maintenance support and, if the customer requires, a full cabin crew.  Aeromar and Southern Winds, for example, will provide their own cabin crew working under an Air Atlanta purser.  Nigeria Airways, Aeromar and Southern Winds have a business and economy product while Aviajet and Excel require an all-economy configuration.

Hafthor Hafsteinsson, Air Atlanta’s CEO said, “We pride ourselves on our flexibility.  If the customer wants a full colour paint scheme on their aircraft, we will provide it.  If they want our cabin crew in their uniforms, that’s fine.  If they want all-economy or even all first class, we can do that as well.

“This summer we have moved in favour of the 767 and reduced the number of the larger 747,” Mr Hafsteinsson continued. “That’s what the market wants so that’s what the market gets.  If we identify trends towards other economic alternatives we will explore those too.”

In addition to the eight-strong 767 fleet, Air Atlanta operates a Boeing 747-100, nine 747-200s including two freighters and three 747-300s currently dry-leased to Iberia. 

Air Atlanta Icelandic was set up in 1986 by Captain Arngrimur Johannsson and his wife Thora Gudmundsdottir to provide aircraft to airlines and tour operators in need of capacity.  The airline is headquartered in Iceland and is wholly owned by Icelandic citizens.  It is JAR-OPS, JAR 145, JAR-TRTO and FAR 129 certified and has, currently, seven operational bases around the world.
