Spirit Airlines Sets Passengers Carried Record For March 2001

Spirit Airlines announces record-breaking traffic figures for March 2001 with 349,761 passengers carried. This is the highest number of passengers carried in a one-month period for the low fare specialist.

Spirit’s load factor reached 81.2 percent, among the highest in the industry and a three percent gain from the same period in 2000.

“It’s no surprise that more passengers, especially in our new markets, Chicago/O’Hare and Washington, D.C., than ever before are choosing Spirit for low fares and friendly service to the most popular vacation destinations,’ said Ned Homfeld, chairman and founder of Spirit Airlines. “We are thrilled with the record breaking figures and anticipate continued growth as Spirit launches new and expanded coast-to coast service starting this spring,” Homfeld said.

Additionally, first quarter 2001 figures reveal a system-wide increase of 21.6 percent of revenue passenger miles (RPMs) from the same period in 2000.

Available seat miles (ASMs) continue to rise with a 19.3 percent increase and a 20.6 percent gain in passengers carried from the first quarter of 2000.
