Southwest Airlines Reports May Traffic

Airlines Co. (NYSE: LUV)
announced today that the Company flew 3.9 billion revenue passenger miles
(RPMs) in May 2001, a 6.2 percent increase from the 3.7 billion RPMs flown in
May 2000.  Available seat miles (ASMs) increased 11.0 percent to 5.6 billion
from the May 2000 level of 5.0 billion.  The load factor for the month was
69.7 percent, compared to 72.8 percent for the same period last year.
 
For the first five months of 2001, Southwest flew 18.4 billion RPMs,
compared to the 16.6 billion RPMs recorded for the same period of 2000, an
increase of 10.7 percent.  Available seat miles increased 11.9 percent to
26.9 billion from the 2000 level of 24.0 billion.  The year-to-date load
factor was 68.5 percent, compared to 69.3 percent for the same period last
year.
