Southwest Airlines Reports April Traffic

Southwest Airlines Co. (NYSE: LUV) announced
today that the Company flew 3.9 billion revenue passenger miles (RPMs) in
April 2001, a 9.8 percent increase from the 3.5 billion RPMs flown in
April 2000.  Available seat miles (ASMs) increased 12.8 percent to 5.4 billion
from the April 2000 level of 4.8 billion.  The load factor for the month was
71.0 percent, compared to 73.0 percent for the same period last year.
For the first four months of 2001, Southwest flew 14.5 billion RPMs,
compared to the 13.0 billion RPMs recorded for the same period of 2000, an
increase of 12.0 percent.  Available seat miles increased 12.2 percent to
21.3 billion from the 2000 level of 19.0 billion.  The year-to-date load
factor was 68.2 percent, compared to 68.4 percent for the same period last
