Southwest Airlines Reports March Traffic
Southwest Airlines Co. (NYSE: LUV)
announced today that the Company flew 4.0 billion revenue passenger miles
(RPMs) in March 2001, an 11.1 percent increase from the 3.6 billion RPMs flown
in March 2000. Available seat miles (ASMs) increased 12.1 percent to
5.5 billion from the March 2000 level of 4.9 billion. The load factor for the
month was 72.2 percent, compared to 72.9 percent for the same period last
year.
For the first quarter 2001, Southwest flew 10.7 billion RPMs, compared to
the 9.5 billion RPMs recorded for the same period of 2000, an increase of
12.8 percent. Available seat miles increased 12.0 percent to 15.9 billion
from the 2000 level of 14.2 billion. The first quarter load factor was
67.3 percent, compared to 66.8 percent for the same period last year.
