Southwest Airlines Reports October Traffic Up 18.1 Percent

Southwest Airlines Co. (NYSE: LUV)
(announced today that the Company flew 3.7 billion revenue passenger miles
(RPMs) in October 2000, an 18.1 percent increase from the 3.1 billion RPMs
flown in October 1999.  Available seat miles (ASMs) increased 14.1 percent to
5.3 billion from the October 1999 level of 4.6 billion.  The load factor for
the month was 70.0 percent, up 2.4 points from 1999.
For the ten months ended October 31, 2000, Southwest flew
35.1 billion RPMs, compared to the 30.3 billion RPMs recorded for the same
period of 1999, an increase of 15.9 percent.  Available seat miles increased
13.5 percent to 49.5 billion from the 1999 level of 43.6 billion.  The
year-to-date load factor was 70.9 percent, up 1.5 points from the same period
last year.
