Southwest Airlines Reports May Traffic Up 16.1 Percent

Southwest Airlines Co. announced today that the Company flew 3.7 billion revenue passenger miles (RPMs) in May 2000, a 16.1 percent increase from the 3.2 billion RPMs flown in May 1999. Available seat miles (ASMs) increased 15.5 percent to 5.0 billion from the May 1999 level of 4.4 billion. The load factor for the month was 72.8 percent, up 0.3 points from 1999.

For the first five months of 2000, Southwest flew 16.6 billion RPMs, compared to the 14.3 billion RPMs recorded for the same period of 1999, an increase of 16.6 percent. Available seat miles increased 14.2 percent to 24.0 billion from the 1999 level of 21.0 billion. The year-to-date load factor was 69.3 percent, up 1.4 points from the same period last year.
