Southwest Airlines Reports March Traffic Up 17.6 Percent

Southwest Airlines Co. announced today that the Company flew 3.6 billion revenue passenger miles (RPMs) in March 2000, a 17.6 percent increase from the 3.0 billion RPMs flown in March 1999. Available seat miles (ASMs) increased 12.8 percent to 4.9 billion from the March 1999 level of 4.3 billion. The load factor for the month was 72.9 percent, up 3.0 points from 1999.

For the first quarter 2000, Southwest flew 9.5 billion RPMs, compared to the 8.0 billion RPMs recorded for the same period of 1999, an increase of 17.5 percent. Available seat miles increased 14.2 percent to 14.2 billion from the 1999 level of 12.4 billion. The first quarter load factor was 66.8 percent, up 1.9 points from the same period last year.
