THAI Installs Flight Deck Door Security On 16 Boeings

Thai Airways International Public Company Limited announced an installation of Flight Deck Door Security to improve inflight safety for pilot and cabin crew on aircraft between Bangkok and the US.

Sqn. Ldr. Udomchai Nandamanop, THAI’s Executive Vice President, said ” although the revised cockpit safety and security regulations set by Federal Aviation Adminstration (FAA) are applied only to US airlines following the September attacks to prevent unauthorized entry into the cockpit, THAI recognizes the urgency to ensure maximum safety and security on board for both passengers and crew traveling with THAI to avoid any unexpected occurrences.”

THAI plans to install a dead-bolt metal and bullet proof flight deck door on all of its 16 Boeing 747-400 aircraft, which is expected to complete by April 2003. The door will be supplied by Boeing Airplane Services (BAS). THAI will also install the same security system on other aircraft in its fleet.

The Air Traffic Control (ATC) Transponders have also been upgraded to enable the pilot to alert the air traffic control on ground of any emergency situation on board aircraft.
