Vanguard Airlines Reports February Traffic

Kansas City, Mo.—Vanguard Airlines, Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: VNGD) reported traffic for the month of February 2002 of 91.3 million revenue passenger miles (RPMs). Capacity was 143.5 million available seat miles (ASMs). Load factor was 63.6 percent.

As compared to February of last year, traffic increased 12 percent from 81.6 million RPMs; capacity increased 14 percent from 125.6 million ASMs; and load factor decreased 1.4 points from 65.0 percent. Load factor for February 2001 reflected significant fare discounting instituted by the Company beginning in January of 2001.

“Passengers continue to respond favorably to our new route and low fares,” said Scott Dickson, CEO and President of Vanguard Airlines. “While we are still seeing lingering effects of the post-September 11 traffic slowdown, the coming months will bring new and increased service as we resume service to Myrtle Beach beginning March 28 and introduce service to Orlando as well as our second daily Kansas City-San Francisco flight beginning April 22. And very soon, we will announce a dramatic expansion of nonstop flights serving Kansas City.”

For the first two months of 2002, load factor increased 8.6 points to 61.6 percent from 53.0 percent; RPMs increased 30 percent to 184.9 million from 141.7 million; and ASMs increased 12 percent to 300.1 million from 267.5 million, in each case as compared to the year 2001.
