Kansas City, MO—Vanguard Airlines, Inc. (NasdaqSC: VNGD) reported traffic for the month of September 2001 of 76.8 million revenue passenger miles (RPMs). Capacity was 146.5 million available seat miles (ASMs). September load factor was 52.5 percent.

As compared to September of last year, traffic increased 18 percent from 65.3 million RPMs; capacity increased 21 percent from 120.8 million ASMs; and load factor decreased 1.6 points from 54.1 percent.

September traffic and capacity were significantly impacted by the September 11 attacks and subsequent air traffic shutdown. Vanguard resumed flight operations on September 13, 2001, and returned to its full schedule beginning September 14, 2001. The airline operated its normal schedule for the remainder of the month. Load factor for the period from September 1 to 10 was 67.8 percent. Load factor from September 13 to 30 was 43.5 percent.

For the first nine months of the year, load factor increased 6.6 points to 66.7 percent from 60.1 percent for the same period in 2000. Year-to-date RPMs increased 12 percent to 817.3 million from 726.6 million, and year-to-date ASMs increased one percent to 1,225.9 million from 1,208.6 million, in each case as compared to the same period last year.
