Vanguard Airlines Reports October Traffic

Kansas City, MO—Vanguard Airlines, Inc. (NasdaqSC: VNGD) reported traffic for the month of October 2001 of 86.7 million revenue passenger miles (RPMs). Capacity was 139.6 million available seat miles (ASMs). Load factor was 62.1 percent, the highest ever October load factor for the company.


As compared to October of last year, traffic increased six percent from 81.7 million RPMs; capacity decreased one percent from 141.1 million ASMs; and load factor increased 4.2 points from 57.9 percent.


“Passenger traffic grew steadily throughout the month following the events of September 11, and Vanguard is gratified with the result,” said Scott Dickson, CEO and President of Vanguard Airlines. “Passengers have responded very favorably to our initiatives to get America flying again. Not only did we continue to offer affordable fares across our network, but we also responded to recovery needs by giving special priority to emergency workers headed to the scenes of the disasters. Our passenger levels for October continue to validate Vanguard`s position as the ‘Hometown Airline of Kansas City’ and one of the most affordable airlines in the United States.”


For the first ten months of the year, load factor increased 6.3 points to 66.2 percent from 59.9 percent for the same period in 2000. Year-to-date RPMs increased 12 percent to 904.1 million from 808.3 million, and year-to-date ASMs increased one percent to 1,365.6 million from 1,349.7 million, in each case as compared to the same period last year.
