New Jersey Flights for bmibaby

Tiny has been celebrating after receiving confirmation that bmibaby has been given full regulatory clearance to operate services to Jersey, despite attempts by British Airways to ruin its plans. bmibaby has today announced that it will significantly increase operations to Jersey by providing daily services from its East Midlands Airport base.

The increase will provide a huge boost for tourism in Jersey, however this maybe threatened if Jersey Airport does not look at reforming its charging structure to airlines. From 27 October bmibaby will provide five additional services a week to the Channel Island from East Midlands Airport meaning the airline will operate a flight every day into Jersey from its East Midlands base.

Tony Davis, managing director of bmibaby said:
“We are pleased to have won the battle to be able serve Jersey and whilst we’re boosting capacity for the winter season I fear that services may be threatened if the current charging structure that is in place at the Airport is not reformed. Charges at Jersey Airport are some of the highest in the British Isles. Low cost carriers bring a wealth of benefits to airports, such as increased passenger throughput and a significant boost to the economy, however it seems some airports are all too happy to sit back and reap the rewards of low cost carriers without reforming their charges for using the airport.

Not only is bmibaby increasing the frequency of its services it is also increasing the number of aircraft it will base at East Midlands Airport to provide a back up aircraft in case it is needed. The move will make bmibaby the only airline operating out of the East Midlands to base a spare aircraft in case it is needed operationally, which proves how dedicated the airline is to retaining its exceptional reliability record.

Commenting on the fleet increase, Tony added:
“By adding yet another aircraft to bmibaby’s fleet at East Midlands Airport we could have sold up to 7,000 extra seats a week, but instead we are using the aircraft to ensure our services are on time. That is the difference with bmibaby, whilst we save passengers money by cutting out on the frills of travelling we ensure that operationally we are as efficient as a full service carrier. We are totally committed to offering a cheap, efficient and reliable service and I believe this is what makes us the number one choice for consumers.

“Our routes between East Midlands Airport and Glasgow, Edinburgh, Amsterdam, Paris (CDG), Belfast, Brussels and Dublin are offering business and leisure travellers up to six flights per day. As the only airline with a spare aircraft based at the airport, bmibaby has to be the first choice for travellers looking for both reliability and low fares.

“Tiny has put up a good fight with the big boys of the travel industry and has emerged as the eventual winner, especially in the Jersey route license saga. Whilst we’re sure this won’t be the last playground scuffle he’ll be having we’re confident he will always emerge as a clear winner.”

Additional services to Jersey will go on sale Thursday. Internet fares start from £25 one way. Anyone interested should log on to bmibaby.com or call 0870 264 2229.
