American Airlines Cargo Announces Increase in Fuel Surcharge

FORT WORTH, Texas - American Airlines Cargo announced today an increase in its fuel surcharge from $0.05(US)/kg to $0.10/kg or equivalent currency on international shipments and from $0.02/lb to $0.04/lb on U.S. domestic shipments, effective Sept. 23. The increase to the surcharge results from a sustained rise in fuel prices over recent weeks. American’s fuel index and methodology for calculating adjustments to the fuel surcharge is updated weekly and posted on the American Airlines Cargo Web site at www.AACargo.com.
The fuel index is based on the weekly average spot price of kerosene-type jet fuel as reported by the U. S. Department of Energy in the Weekly Petroleum Status Report. The index is calculated by averaging the five current spot prices in the New York Harbor, U.S. Gulf Coast, Los Angeles, Rotterdam (ARA) and Singapore markets.
Adjustments to the fuel surcharge will occur when the index exceeds or falls below a specified fuel threshold for two consecutive weeks. For more information, contact your local American Airlines Cargo Sales Office or visit www.AACargo.com.
