Update on Baggage Handling at Stansted Airport

The baggage handling performance at Stansted airport continues to improve steadily. This week saw our best performance yet with no baggage belt breakdowns, no delays at the baggage screening points and the number of short shipped bags even further reduced to less than 0.1% of all baggage carried- a very creditable performance, well above industry standards.
We remain absolutely determined that even this tiny number of short shipped bags is reduced to zero and continue to work with the airport authority (BAA), our handling agent (Groundstar) and all other interested parties to ensure that the infrastructure and facilities are provided to achieve this.
We will relentlessly focus our energies and efforts on ensuring that the highest standards of service are provided to you by Groundstar and we continue to actively address and resolve deficiencies in their performance particularly in relation to their staffing levels and roster coverage. The results of these efforts are already very apparent by our greatly improved punctuality performance.
We would ask you to help us in our efforts by ensuring that you check-in as early as possible for your flight (check-in opens 2 hours before your scheduled departure time) and by clearly labelling your checked-in baggage with your name, phone number and contact details. These measures will significantly ease the pressures on the airport baggage belt systems and on our handling agent and will assist us in achieving our objective of providing you with a carefree, enjoyable experience whilst in our care.
