22 August, 2002, JOHANNESBURG: After their deliberations to find a better way of managing the planet, world leaders and officials from civil society organisations attending the World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD) will find time to unwind and enjoy music from local and international jazz artists, thanks to South African Airways (SAA).
The Joy of Jazz Festival will be held at the Market Theatre Precinct in Newtown from 29 August to 31st of August
People from across the world, speaking a multitude of languages will be afforded the opportunity to understand one another through the universal language of music
As the official carrier for summit, SAA cannot think of anything more appropriate than being involved in the two day Joy of Jazz Festival, the prime entertainment event during the WSSD.
We are honoured to be associated with the Joy of Jazz Festival as a strong supporter of arts and culture in South Africa. Our commitment to local talent stands steadfast and the opportunity to have them share the stage with international artists does us extremely proud.
The festival, which has been in existence since 1984 will feature famed artists such as Oleta Adams, Kirk Whalum, Sibongile Khumalo, Jonas Gwangwa and many, many other international and local artists.
SAA brings you the respected jazz artists from their respective hometowns, which include New Orleans, the United Kingdom, United States and Cuba.
The festival will include all aspects of the performing arts - theatre, music, dance and film. Artists will host various workshops during the festival.
