Smoke Detected in SWISS Aircraft Cockpit

22nd Aug 2002

A minor incident occurred at Zurich Airport at 22:27 (local time) yesterday when the crew of a SWISS Embraer RJ 145 declared an emergency shortly before landing after detecting smoke in the cockpit.  The BfU, the Swiss air accident investigating authority, has launched an inquiry into the incident, for which it has asked SR Technics to provide specialist support.

The Embraer RJ 145 had already performed three incident-free flights yesterday before, on its fourth flight (LX 1027 from Düsseldorf to Zurich), a small amount of smoke was detected in the cockpit. The landing was performed without problems, and the 21 passengers aboard were able to leave the aircraft normally.
