Ryanair is pleased to advise passengers that the baggage and consequent handling problems at Stansted airport have improved over the last two weeks although they are still below the service levels we achieve at other base airports (Dublin, Glasgow Prestwick, Brussels Charleroi and Frankfurt Hahn for example). As a result of remedial works carried out by the BAA to the baggage belts and the efforts of our handling agent Ground star the number of baggage belt breakdowns have reduced by over 50% versus the previous two week period. The number of bags being short shipped (missing their flights) which was running at less than 1% of all bags, has now been reduced by 70% to under 0.3% of 1% of all bags. There continue to be sporadic problems at peak times however the BAA have put additional technical expertise in place to ensure problems once identified are rectified immediately.
Ryanair wishes to remind all passengers that they should continue to clearly label their checked in baggage with details of their name, phone number and contact details while abroad. In addition, we ask you to please check in as early as possible (check -in opens 2 hours before your scheduled departure time) and limit the amount of baggage you intend to check -in. This will help ease the pressure on the belt systems and our handling agents at Stansted.
We will continue to work with both the BAA and our handling agents Ground star to maintain this improvement. Our objective remains the consistent delivery of zero baggage belt failures, and zero short-shipped bags, figures which we continually deliver at other airports. We have also agreed and initiated a series of measures with Ground star to make sure all elements of the handling service at Stansted continue to improve significantly over the coming days and weeks.
Please again accept our very sincere apologies if you were one of the small minority of our customers to suffer a flights delay or short sipped bag over the recent weeks, you may rest assured that we are doing everything we can to eliminate these problems.
