Qantas Named Airline Of The Year

Qantas has been named Australia`s Airline of the Year in this year`s prestigious National Travel Industry Awards.

The Awards, established to recognise excellence in the travel industry, were announced at a special travel industry dinner at Melbourne`s Grand Hyatt Hotel on Saturday, 11 September.

Qantas was selected ahead of six other finalists - including five international airlines - in the Airline of the Year category.

Qantas Holidays was named Wholesaler of the Year, for the third consecutive year, from a field of seven finalists.
The awards were judged by a 14-person panel of travel experts on criteria including product and service quality, marketing initiatives, and the quality of reservations and information systems.

Qantas Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Geoff Dixon, said it was a great achievement to win both categories.

“Winning the Airline of the Year Award in 1999 reflects the investment Qantas has made in its staff, product and service,” he added.

“Qantas Holidays has maintained its position as Australia`s number one wholesale travel operator for some years, and to continue to receive the recognition of the travel industry through this award is something of which we are very proud,” Mr Dixon said.

“Both awards also reflect the attention Qantas pays to fostering productive relationships with partners throughout the travel industry,” he said.
