America West Airlines
(NYSE: AWA) announced today the election of Shirley Kaufman as vice president,
employee relations and human resources legal compliance.  Kaufman will be
responsible for employee relations efforts, including employee advocacy,
diversity programs and day-to-day management of the company`s collective
bargaining agreements, as well as all human resources compliance issues.

“Shirley has been a leader and significant contributor to America West`s
corporate human resources and legal affairs initiatives,” said Lonnie Bane,
senior vice president, human resources.  “Her promotion is a testament to her
contribution to the company.”

Kaufman joined America West in November 1999, as senior director, legal
affairs.  Her primary responsibilities included legal counseling for the
company`s human resources division and overseeing employment law matters in
federal and state agencies and courts.  Prior to joining America West, Kaufman
was a partner with the law firm of Brown & Bain in Phoenix.

Kaufman graduated summa cum laude from Arizona State University with a
bachelor of science degree in mathematics and earned her juris doctorate,
magna cum laude, from ASU.
