British Midland Promotes Finance Director

British Midland has appointed Nigel Turner to the Board of British Midland Airways and promoted him to the position of group finance director. His new responsibilities encompass the entire finance function for group activities including the airline, operations and engineering.

Nigel joined British Midland in 1987 as a cost and budget accountant becoming finance director in 1994. This role gave him responsibility for a company with a turnover of $1 billion reporting to the group managing director. Most recently, Nigel has been the prime negotiator in the order of 22 Airbus aircraft and he also maintains a close interest in airport charges.

Prior to joining British Midland, Nigel spent four years with Hull-based major food supplier Northern Foods. He started as financial accountant at a subsidiary company and moved to hold the position of company accountant to other subsidiaries of the company by 1987.

Post graduation, Nigel spent three years with Hepworths in Leeds as a trainee accountant, qualifying in 1983.
