America West Says Its Operating Performance Near Record Levels

America West Airlines (NYSE: AWA) today
said its operating performance for the month of October is on a record-setting
pace as it recovers from the events of September 11.

The airline`s month-to-date completion factor for October is 99 percent,
representing the number of flights in its schedule that the company operated.
In October 2000, America West`s completion factor was 95 percent.

  America West`s month-to-date on-time performance stands at 84 percent
compared with 60 percent in October 2000.
 
“The employees of America West are dedicated to providing our customers
with safe, reliable service, and deserve credit for the continued, dramatic
improvement in performance,” said Jeffrey McClelland, executive vice president
of operations.  “This performance should provide assurance to our customers
that America West is making a rapid comeback following the events of
September 11, and that, under heightened security measures, air travel remains
reliable and consistent.”

For the first ten days of September, as reported to the Department of
Transportation, America West reported a completion factor of 98.5 percent, an
improvement over the 97.8 percent reported in September 2000.  The airline`s
on-time performance jumped to 82.3 percent from 75.6 percent in September
2000.
