America West Airlines (NYSE: AWA) today
announced the appointment of Thomas K. MacGillivray as senior vice president,
finance and chief financial officer.  MacGillivray will be responsible for the
company`s corporate finance, financial planning and analysis, accounting and
investor relations activities.

“Tom has a varied and successful background in investment and corporate
finance and is a proven chief financial officer,” said William A. Franke,
chairman and chief executive officer.  “We believe that Tom`s leadership
skills and financial expertise will serve America West well.”
 
Before joining America West, MacGillivray served for seven years at
Central Newspapers, Inc., most recently in Phoenix as senior vice president
and chief financial officer and previously in Indianapolis as director of
investments and trust funds.  Prior to his position at Central Newspapers, he
served for five years at Sovran Capital Management in Richmond, Va., as vice
president and portfolio manager managing assets totaling approximately
$2.8 billion.  MacGillivray began his financial career as an associate at
Mercer Investment Consulting in Atlanta.
 
MacGillivray, 40, graduated from the University of Dayton in 1982 with a
bachelor of science degree in business administration, majoring in economics,
and is a chartered financial analyst.
