America West Names Joseph Chronic Vice President, Flight Operations

America West Airlines (NYSE: AWA)
announced today the appointment of Captain Joseph Chronic as vice president,
flight operations.  Captain Chronic will be responsible for managing the
airline`s flight operations organization, including its pilots, flight
standards and flight safety programs, flight crew scheduling and flight crew
training.

“Joe brings a wealth of flight operations and management experience,” said
Jeff McClelland, senior vice president, operations.  “His leadership will
provide clear direction for a safe and effective airline operation.”
 
Chronic has been a commercial airline pilot for the past 28 years, most
recently as a captain with Trans World Airlines (TWA) where he worked for
14 years.  In addition to his flight duties, Chronic held key flight
operations positions with TWA including check airman and fleet manager for
TWA`s McDonnell Douglas fleet.  Prior to TWA`s merger with Ozark Airlines, he
flew for 14 years with Ozark.  While with Ozark and TWA, Chronic was an active
member of the Air Line Pilots Association leadership and served as chairman of
the TWA Master Executive Council from 1997 to 1999.
 
Prior to beginning his airline career, Chronic served in the U.S. Navy as
a fighter pilot.  After joining Ozark, Chronic continued to serve in the U.S.
Navy Reserves until 1996 attaining the rank of Captain.  During his naval
career he held a variety of command positions and from 1989 to 1996 served as
assistant deputy chief of staff for Norfolk Naval Base in Virginia.
 
Chronic attended Parks College of Aeronautical Technology in St. Louis
majoring in aeronautical administration.
