America West Airlines (NYSE: AWA) today
announced the election of John R. Wilson as vice president of operations
planning and analysis.  Wilson will be responsible for planning and financial
analysis for the airline`s customer service, maintenance and engineering,
flight operations and airport operations groups.

“John possesses strong financial analysis expertise and a tremendous
working knowledge of airline operational requirements,” said Jeff McClelland,
senior vice president, operations.  “In this position, John will provide
tactical and strategic direction through planning and analyzing operations
performance.  We`re pleased to have him as part of the operations management
team.”

For the past three years, Wilson has served as senior director of
financial analysis for America West.  During that time, Wilson provided
economic evaluation and support to successful labor contract negotiations with
the airline`s mechanics, dispatchers, flight attendants and fleet service
workers.  Wilson also developed economic evaluation of aircraft options
supporting aircraft acquisition efforts.  Prior to joining America West,
Wilson was with Northwest Airlines for seven years in Minneapolis and Tokyo,
Japan, and held various financial analysis management positions.  Wilson began
his financial analysis career with General Dynamics Corporation in Fort Worth,
Texas.

Wilson received a master`s in business administration from the University
of Virginia and a bachelor degree in business administration from Texas Tech
University.
