Parker Named President Of America West Airlines

America West Holdings Corporation
(NYSE: AWA) today announced the election of W. Douglas Parker as president of
its subsidiary, America West Airlines, Inc.  Parker will oversee the airline`s
operations and its finance, planning, marketing and administration functions.
William A. Franke will continue as chairman and chief executive of America
West Airlines and as chairman, president and chief executive officer of
America West Holdings Corporation.

“During the past five years, Doug has played a key role in developing and
executing the airline`s growth strategy,” said Franke.  “His responsibilities
have been steadily expanded during this period and his election as president
today is consistent with our plans to prepare him for a senior leadership
role.  He has consistently demonstrated his leadership skills, which now will
be focused on improving the airline`s operations and pursuing our growth

After spending 10 years in financial management positions with American
Airlines and Northwest Airlines, Parker joined America West in 1995 as senior
vice president and chief financial officer.  In 1997 his duties were expanded
to include responsibility for the airline`s planning, scheduling and revenue
management.  In April 1999, Parker was named executive vice president,
corporate group.  Parker holds a master`s degree in finance from Vanderbilt
University and a bachelor of arts degree in economics from Albion College.
Parker was also elected president and chief executive officer of The
Leisure Company (TLC), America West Holdings` leisure travel subsidiary.
Franke will continue as chairman of TLC.
America West Airlines also announced the promotion of three other
executives.  Joette Schmidt was elected vice president, customers; Jonathan R.
Leak was elected vice president, purchasing and fuel administration; and James
Reiser was elected vice president, corporate real estate.
In the newly created position of vice president, customers, Joette Schmidt
will have responsibility for developing programs for improving America West`s
customer service and customer relations, and will oversee the airline`s
execution of its Customers First program.  Schmidt, a 20-year airline industry
veteran, joined America West in 1996 as senior director of passenger sales.
Prior to joining America West, Schmidt held various management positions in
sales and marketing with American Airlines.  Schmidt began her career with
Hughes Air West.  She holds a bachelor`s degree in business administration
from the University of Phoenix.
As vice president, purchasing and fuel administration, Leak will be
responsible for managing the airline`s purchasing and procurement including
its fuel supply, as well as managing the company`s fuel hedging program.  Leak
joined America West in 1996 as senior director of fuel administration and was
given responsibility for the airline`s purchasing department in 1997.  Before
America West, Leak managed fuel purchasing and energy risk for Delta Air
Lines.  Leak earned a bachelor of business administration degree from the
University of North Texas.
As vice president, corporate real estate, Reiser`s responsibilities will
include real estate acquisition, leasing, construction, maintenance and the
support of the airline`s operations systemwide.  Reiser joined America West in
1998 as senior director of corporate real estate.  He has more than 17 years
of experience in engineering and construction, most recently as director of
construction for Doubletree Hotels Corporation.  Reiser holds a bachelor of
science degree in civil engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology
in Chicago.
