America West Airlines (NYSE: AWA)
announced today the appointment of David C. Slonim as vice president, line
maintenance. Slonim will oversee all aspects of line maintenance for America
West`s fleet of 126 aircraft consisting of Boeing 737s and 757s, and Airbus
A319s and A320s. He will provide strategic direction for maximizing the fleet
operational performance and regulatory compliance.

Slonim joins America West from Federal Express Corp. where he served more
than 14 years in a variety of maintenance management positions, most recently
as vice president of aircraft line maintenance. Slonim started his aviation
career more than 33 years ago in the U.S. Marine Corp. He has also worked for
Beechcraft and The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia holding various management
America West Airlines, the nation`s ninth-largest carrier, serves
87 destinations with more than 860 daily departures in the U.S., Canada and
