America West Stock Clerks To Be Represented by Teamsters

America West Airlines (NYSE: AWA)
announced that its stock clerks voted in favor of being represented by the
International Brotherhood of Teamsters (IBT).  Of the 41 employees eligible to
vote, 25 voted for IBT representation.  The election results were tabulated on
September 10, 1999 at the National Mediation Board`s headquarters in
Washington, D.C.

“The IBT has shown a good understanding of the operating and economic
issues and opportunities facing America West Airlines and the union has
demonstrated an ability to address its membership`s requirements in a manner
consistent with the Airline`s objectives,” said W. A. Franke, chairman,
president and chief executive officer.
America West Airlines, the nation`s ninth largest carrier, serves more
than 90 destinations in the U.S., Canada and Mexico.  For the second
consecutive year, America West ranked number one in baggage handling as
recorded in the 1998 Air Travel Consumer Report published by the U.S.
Department of Transportation.
