America West Airlines and British Airways
today announced an expansion of its codeshare agreement to include two
additional cities from America West`s hub in Phoenix. The new service will
begin Sept. 20, 1999 and will offer online connections from British Airways`
daily non-stop London (Gatwick)-Phoenix route to Reno, Nev. and Salt Lake
America West and British Airways currently codeshare on eleven routes from
both America West`s Phoenix and Las Vegas hubs. Online connections are
offered to both London Heathrow and Gatwick airports.
“The addition of these new markets is a result of our successful
relationship with British Airways,” said Bernie Han, America West`s senior
vice president, planning. “Our shared customers will appreciate the
convenient online service to these additional markets.”
As part of the agreement, members of each airline`s frequent flyer program
have fully reciprocal opportunities for mileage accrual and award redemption.
“The continuing success of our Phoenix to London route is in no small part
due to our excellent relationship with America West. So these routes are very
welcome additions,” said Dan Brewin, British Airways` executive vice
president, sales and marketing, USA. “We look forward to growing our mutual
business from these important markets.”
The original codeshare agreement with British Airways began July 1, 1996
with nine markets from Phoenix to Albuquerque, N.M.; Las Vegas; Burbank, Long
Beach, Oakland, Ontario, Orange County and San Jose, Calif.; and Tucson, Ariz.
connecting with British Airway`s non-stop London-Phoenix flight. It was
expanded on November 1, 1997 to include America West`s Las Vegas hub
connecting to British Airways Heathrow service from Los Angeles and San
British Airways flies to 167 destinations in 87 countries around the
world. From the United States, British Airways operates from 21 gateways plus
eleven western U. S. cities via Phoenix, Los Angeles and San Francisco in
cooperation with America West Airlines.
