ATA`s ``Take Note Sale`` Starts Today; Purchase Tickets by August 12th

INDIANAPOLIS—(BUSINESS WIRE)—Aug. 6, 2002—ATA (American Trans Air, Inc.) (Nasdaq:ATAH) today launched its “Take Note Sale” featuring special, low fares to a variety of destinations. These fares are available today until midnight E.S.T. on Monday, August 12, 2002, for travel August 20 through December 11, 2002. As an added bonus, customers who book their reservations online at ATA.Com will save an additional $10 per round-trip, per person, on these already low sale fares.

ATA`s “Take Note Sale” fares are off-peak, each way based on a round-trip purchase.
Now in its 29th year of operation, ATA is the nation`s 10th largest passenger carrier, based on revenue passenger miles flown. ATA operates significant scheduled service from Chicago-Midway and Indianapolis to over 40 business and vacation destinations. Stock of the Company`s parent company, ATA Holdings Corp. (formerly known as Amtran, Inc.), is traded on the Nasdaq Stock Market under the symbol “ATAH.”

Fares do not include a $3 federal excise tax that will be imposed on each flight segment of your itinerary. A flight segment is defined as a takeoff and a landing. ATA`s “Take Note Sale” fares are valid for travel 8/20 - 12/11/02 (except during blackout dates 11/22-12/2/02 and travel to and from San Jose, Calif. begins October 1, 2002). Tickets must be purchased by 8/12/02, midnight (EST). Fares are off-peak, each way based on round-trip purchase. These sale fares are non-refundable and subject to change without notice. Seats are limited and may not be available on all flights and dates. Not all destinations are served on a daily basis. Some flights are provided by Chicago Express Airlines, Inc., doing business as ATA Connection. Customers booking via ata.com receive $10 discount per round-trip, per person. A passenger facility charge of up to $18 per round-trip is not included in the fares. Fares do not include a September 11th security fee of up to $10 per round-trip. Additional government fees of up to $75 to Cancun per round trip are not included in the fares.
