Aer Lingus, tomorrow, becomes the eighth member of the oneworld global alliance. The oneworld Alliance now comprises Aer Lingus, American Airlines, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Finnair, Iberia, Qantas and LanChile.
The member airlines of oneworld carry over 200 million passengers throughout a network of over 550 destinations across the globe.
Aer Lingus Group Chief Executive Larry Stanley said that membership of the oneworld alliance would also deliver significant benefits to Aer Lingus customers and the Irish economy as a whole through the provision of greatly improved access. “Membership of oneworld represents a major step for Aer Lingus. Our customers will now be able to gain benefits on a worldwide scale. Exposing the Irish market to this massive global audience will reap benefits for Ireland beyond the normal tourism and commercial business markets” he said.
Entry to the oneworld global alliance comes at a critical stage in the commercial development of Aer Lingus and the additional traffic accruing will further boost the strong growth achieved by the airline in all markets over recent years.
$35 Million Marketing Campaign to Market Aer Lingus Worldwide
Aer Lingus’ entry into oneworld coincides with the launch of the Irish element of an integrated global marketing communications campaign. The oneworld marketing campaign - with US$35 million budgeted for print, poster and on-line advertising, brochures and a whole range of other materials starts this Thursday in Irish print media.
It will run in key Irish and international business magazines and newspapers progressively until the end of this year, in almost 200 publications covering scores of countries, on hundreds of poster sites, and on dozens of websites on-line, using some 15 different languages. Four variations will be used, focussing on the different customer services offered by the alliance, in particular its frequent flyer benefits, its greater network of airport lounges, and the higher levels of support travellers are able to receive.
