Valentine`s Day, February 14th is the landmark date set for Virgin Atlantic Cargo`s official worldwide launch of its web site on the Internet. The site - www.virgin.com/cargo - will provide customers instant access to comprehensive information on the airline`s latest operational schedules, route and office network, details on the carrier`s fleet and ULD equipment plus the ability to track and trace shipments online.
To launch this extensively researched new web site, Virgin Atlantic Cargo is offering a real sweetheart of a deal. The first 1,000 hits from anywhere in the world, will be afforded the opportunity to be entered into a draw to win a truly romantic break for two. The prize valued at around £3,000 includes firm air travel on Virgin Atlantic, luxury hotel accommodation, a limousine to and from the hotel and airport, tickets to a major show or concert as well as a few other surprises.
The site, which is specifically targeted at the freight forwarder and shipper industry, has been created by Virgin Atlantic Cargo`s own in-house development team in association with one of America`s top Internet design agencies.
The vital track and trace facility was piloted in March 2000 after extensive consultation with their customers both before and after its introduction.
Research and development work to produce a fully interactive online track and trace facility that customers really wanted commenced in June 1999. After the introduction of the piloted version in March last year a detailed questionnaire was sent to Virgin Atlantic Cargo customers the following month for response by the end of May. The development team took customer comments and suggestions onboard and the airline enhanced the facility around them. Ongoing evaluation of this facility will continue as a matter of course and improvements will be made if there are definite customer benefits.
According to John Lloyd, Virgin Atlantic`s Director of Cargo: “This launch represents Phase One of our web site development. The next phase will encompass future interactive development including on-line quotations and bookings, plus the ability to view cargo space availability on individual flights. Our development team are continuously reviewing new initiatives and ways to better serve our customers needs. We don`t just react, all of our decisions are strategically minded.”
The portfolio of information on the carrier`s cargo web site is broken down into several easy-to-surf sub sections, headlined:
