Walter Gehl Appointed To Management Board Of Lufthansa German Airlines

Information Technology added to Human Resources Division


Walter Gehl (49) is taking over the newly reorganised Human Resources and Information Technology Division at Lufthansa German Airlines on May 17 2001.
His appointment fills the vacant position of Executive Vice President Human Resources on the management board of the passenger business, the biggest business area of the Aviation Group with a staff of 28,000 people.
Walter Gehl has been a member of the Executive Board in charge of Human Resources, Finance and Information Technology at Lufthansa Cargo AG since 1995. He began his career at Lufthansa in the central data processing department in Frankfurt in 1981 and, subsequently, became project manager responsible for computerizing the decentral accounting system. In 1993, he was appointed Manager Revenue Services. Following his appointment to the Cargo Executive Board, Walter Gehl also became Labour Director in 1996.


In view of his successful record in the Group, Walter Gehl will additionally assume responsibility for information technology on the passenger business management board.


A decision has not yet been reached on his successor on the Lufthansa Cargo Executive Board.
