American Airlines Applauds the U.S. House of Representatives for Passing O`Hare Airport Improvement

WASHINGTON, D.C. - American Airlines today praised members of the U.S. House of Representatives who on a bipartisan basis overwhelmingly endorsed legislation that will result in improvements and modernization of Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport.
“Rep. Bill Lipinski of Illinois is to be commended for his work in getting this much-needed legislation through the U.S. House,” said American CEO and Chairman Don Carty. “Rep. Lipinski, Rep. Mark Kirk of Illinois who led the effort on the floor of the House, and the 341 other House members who voted for H. R. 3479, recognize that O’Hare is a jewel of the nation’s air transportation system. They understand that to ensure a smooth operating system in the future, O’Hare needs to be improved and modernized.

“We thank Speaker Dennis Hastert of Illinois and Minority Leader Dick Gephardt of Missouri for their strong bipartisan leadership and for making this issue a priority. Now we look to the Senate where Senators Dick Durbin of Illinois and Charles Grassley of Iowa have legislation pending that will enhance O’Hare’s operation. More than 60 Senators have indicated willingness to see their legislation become law and it is time for a vote. We urge the Senate leadership to bring the Durbin/Grassley bill up for a vote at the earliest possible date.”
