In September, overall traffic increased by 5%, whereas capacity grew by 1%. Consequently, overall load factor increased by 2.6 percentage points from 79.8% last year to 82.4% this year, which is a record September load factor. Traffic growth was especially strong in the route areas Africa (+13%), Asia Pacific (+11%) and Europe (+8%).
Passenger traffic increased by 3%, while capacity was the same as last year. As a result, passenger load factor increased by 3.0 percentage points to 84.8% this year. Passenger traffic growth was strong in the route areas Africa (+10%) and Europe (+9%). Passenger load factor in the route area North Atlantic increased from 86.0% last year to 87.7% this year. Business Class traffic increased in all key route areas, including North Atlantic, Europe and Asia Pacific, exceeding Tourist Class traffic growth.
Cargo traffic increased by 7%, whereas capacity grew by 3%. Growth was especially strong in the route area Asia Pacific, where traffic growth equalled capacity growth (both 15%) and cargo load factor reached a level of 85.4%. On North Atlantic routes, cargo load factor increased by 7.4 percentage points from 69.2% to 76.6%.
