July Load Factor 3.4 Percentage Points Below Last Year`s Level

Overall traffic:

Compared to July 2000, traffic decreased by 3% while capacity increased by 2%. Consequently, overall load factor decreased by 3.4 percentage points from 80.5% in July 2000 to 77.1% in July this year. Load factor decreased mainly in the route areas North Atlantic, Central & South Atlantic, and Asia Pacific.

Passenger traffic:

Passenger load factor decreased by 1.6 percentage points to 83.8% in July 2001. Traffic remained the same, while capacity increased by 2%. Traffic increased in the route areas Europe, Middle East/South Asia, Africa, and Central & South Atlantic. This traffic growth is offset by the decline in the route areas North Atlantic, and Asia Pacific.

Overall load factor decreased in all route areas except Europe.

In comparison to July 2000, KLM`s Business Class load factor is negatively influenced by the economic slowdown in various regions.

Cargo traffic:

Cargo traffic decreased by 7%, whereas capacity increased by 2%. Overall cargo load factor decreased by 6.6 percentage points to 65.0%, mainly due to a significant decrease in traffic from Asia to Europe, as a result of the economic slowdown. Lower traffic on Asia and North Atlantic routes was somewhat compensated by higher traffic in the areas Middle East/South Asia, and Central & South Atlantic. Overall cargo load factor decreased in all route areas except for the Middle East/South Asia.
