KLM Engineering & Maintenance (KLM E&M) and United Technologies Corp. (UTC) have jointly decided that they will halt their discussions on a “nose-to-tail” maintenance alliance. Both parties agree in their recognition that their goals are too divergent.

In October 1999, UTC subsidiary Hamilton Sundstrand and KLM E & M launched a joint venture for pneumatic systems maintenance. In March 2000, UTC and KLM announced their intention of achieving far-reaching cooperation in “nose-to-tail” airframe, engine, and component maintenance.

This announcement will not influence KLM E & M’s current partnership with Hamilton Sundstrand for pneumatic systems maintenance.

The KLM E & M management will initiate a review of further future options for the division in consultation with the KLM executive board.
