Continental Airlines (NYSE: CAL and CAL.A) was named as the top-rated U.S. airline for business travel by Smart Money in the February 2000 issue.
The survey evaluated the top 10 U.S. airlines in three categories that business travelers consider most important: convenience and efficiency, frequent-flier privileges and onboard comfort. Continental ranked No. 1 in convenience and efficiency, No. 3 in onboard comfort and No. 5 in frequent-flier privileges.
“It is an honor for all of the employees at Continental Airlines that Smart Money considers us the best U.S airline for business travel,” said Continental Chairman and CEO Gordon Bethune. “Awards such as this are further proof that employees have turned this airline around and made it a success.”
The magazine cited Continental as having the most punctual hub airport traffic (81.3 percent of flights on time), the fewest bumped passengers (one for every 45,455) and the third best on-time ranking with 77.7 percent. In addition to these measures, Smart Money also credited Continental’s flexible carry-on luggage policy as another reason the carrier’s service is favored among business travelers.
Continental Airlines is the fifth largest airline in the U.S., offering more than 2,200 departures daily to 136 domestic and 87 international destinations. Operating major hubs in Newark, Houston and Cleveland, Continental (www.continental.com) has extensive service throughout the Americas, and to Europe and Asia.
