Continental Airlines Only U.S. Carrier To Win OAG Awards

Continental Airlines (NYSE: CAL and CAL.A) has won two awards in the 2000 OAG Airline of the Year Awards. Continental was the only U.S. carrier to win an OAG award.

Continental won Best Short Haul Executive/Business Class and Best Frequent Flyer Program. In addition, the airline was highly commended as Best Long Haul Executive/Business Class, runner-up to codeshare partner Virgin Atlantic Airways. The awards are based on votes by frequent flyers around the world who subscribe to OAG print and electronic travel information products.

The awards were presented at a ceremony on Jan. 26 at the Grosvenor House Hotel, London, and were accepted by Barry Simon, Continental’s senior vice president-International, on behalf of the airline.

“Winning these awards means a great deal to us, since they are voted for by the most frequent travelers worldwide,” said Simon. “They are a tribute to the quality of our service and the hard work and professionalism of all our 50,000-plus employees around the world.”

Continental was nominated for awards in five other categories, the second most nominations of any carrier: Best Long-Haul Economy/Coach Class; Best Short-Haul Economy/Coach Class; Best Transatlantic Airline; Best North American Airline; and Best Airline Website.
