Air Canada Reaches Protocol Agreement with IAMAW for Implementation of Job Reductions

Air Canada announced that it had yesterday
reached a protocol agreement with the International Association of Machinists
and Aerospace Workers (IAMAW) for the implementation of job reductions.

The protocol calls for layoffs to be implemented according to a straight
ratio basis for the two bargaining units at each affected location. The first
layoff notices can be issued October 3, 2001.
A protocol was required as a determination of a common seniority system
for employees represented by the IAMAW is still pending following the
integration of Air Canada and Canadian Airlines.
The company also agreed to support a reduced work week job mitigation
program for IAMAW members subject to federal government funding for such a
program.
