Boeing Upgrades SAA: New Look Interior

SEATTLE, July 11, 2002 -The Boeing Company [NYSE: BA], Rockwell Collins and FLS Aerospace have completed their eighth and final 747-400 with the New Millennium airplane interior, for South African Airways. The 747-400 was the highlight at a July 2 delivery ceremony held at FLS Aerospace in Dublin, Ireland - Boeing`s partner for installing the interior retrofit program.

“The new and improved 747-400 interiors will help us provide passengers with world-class comfort and service,” said Vincent Raseroka, chief executive officer for South African Airways Technical. “Much of our success depends on the customer`s onboard experience.”

The New Millennium interior includes cabin interior reconfiguration, featuring new first, business and economy class seating. In addition, this program marks a first for a fully digital, audio and video on-demand throughout the 747-400 cabin; the entire airplane has been fitted with the Rockwell Collins P@ssport? in-flight entertainment system.

“We worked with our industry partners to find the right solutions for South African Airways,” said Mike Marino, vice president of Technical Services and Modifications (TS&M). TS&M, a Boeing Commercial Aviation Services business unit, provided the complete program management and total system integration, installation and certification for the retrofits.

For the upgrade program, TS&M has teamed with FLS Aerospace in Europe, Europe`s leading independent aircraft maintenance provider. Additionally, TS&M provided the design services and kitting for the environmental control systems, interior modifications, system wiring and conversion-to-the-standard interface system. Rockwell Collins provided expertise in the design of the sophisticated P@ssport? system.
