FORT WORTH, Texas - American Airlines issued the following statement today in response to the U.S. Department of Justice’s announcement that it expects to file suit to block the proposed merger of United and US Airways:

“American has learned that the U.S. Department of Justice has advised United Airlines and US Airways that it objects to their planned merger. American`s proposed transactions involving the Shuttle, DC Air, and certain other assets were all contingent upon the consummation of the United - US Airways merger. If that merger does not proceed, American`s transactions also will not proceed.”

American will not make any further comment.
