ST. LOUIS - At today’s groundbreaking ceremony for the new runway at St. Louis Lambert International Airport, Don Carty, American Airlines chairman and CEO, praised city, state and federal leaders for their commitment to international aviation leadership. Lambert is the main hub for TWA Airlines LLC, which is wholly owned by American Airlines.
Carty told assembled dignitaries that the new runway is a perfect example of why Missouri is known as the “Show Me” State.
“All over this country, we are in the midst of an aviation infrastructure crisis, yet—despite the crying need for new runways—very few communities are actually doing anything about it,” Carty said. “Here, in St. Louis and in the ‘Show Me’ State, lip service has been replaced by action. Instead of rhetoric, we’re getting a new runway. It’s worth celebrating and is something for which everyone at American and TWA LLC are extremely grateful.”
Carty said that the new runway will give American the wherewithal to follow through on its commitment to grow and develop its new St. Louis hub for many years to come. The new runway will mean fewer delays for travelers, the promise of more air service in the future, and overall improved safety. For the city and region, the additional runway will make Lambert an even more powerful generator of economic activity and jobs, Carty added.
